Technology has taken music listening and distribution to a whole new level. There are millions of artists out there, out of which many are making some really cool music! The fact that there are just so many music makers on the internet makes it extremely difficult for new artists to find their way to a potential audience. Most people tend to listen to just the artists that have made it big, and we can’t even blame them for it, as the big labels ensure that their new releases are in people’s faces when they open their listening app.
This article is for those who want a break from listening to the same old artists everyone knows the name of. Here are 5 underrated artists from my library:
1. Andrew Huang

I discovered this immensely talented musician while browsing through music production videos on YouTube. Andrew Huang is primarily popular for his highly informative and entertaining YouTube videos about music production. However, his audience and listener-base is restricted to music producers who know him because of his channel and I feel that he deserves more than that. His music is heavily synth-based and he uses all sorts of cool electronic gear ranging from talk-boxes to modular synths to make really awesome sounding songs!
My favourite Andrew Huang songs include: Summertime Feeling, Stars, Lake Louise, Liftoff.
2. Hailey Knox

Hailey Knox is a singer-songwriter from New York, who gained her initial exposure through YouTube covers. She has an incredible voice and an amazing control over it. Her original music is just as impressive as her YouTube covers, very authentic and unique. Her music generally revolves around the alternative-pop genre. Producing some of her own songs on GarageBand, she proves that if you have good musicality, you don’t really need the most advanced equipment to make some really cool songs!
My favourite Hailey Knox songs include: Hardwired, A Boy Named Pluto, Don’t Got One.
3. Abe

If you enjoy acoustic music, you should definitely check out this amazing singer-songwriter. With super-minimal production, powerful vocals and beautiful lyrics, Abe’s music stands out from most of today’s mainstream. It’s just his voice and a maximum of two guitars in most of his songs and they are enough to cast a magically soulful spell on the listener. Although Abe’s music is mostly in English, what makes it even more interesting is the way he seamlessly blends some Arabic lyrics into it. If you are looking for music which is refreshingly different from what most people generally listen to, Abe’s Spotify page is the perfect place for you!
My favourite Abe songs include: Jawabeeni, Forever and Always.
4. HUNNY

HUNNY is an American rock band with an amazing sound. Most of their music has a sweet and nostalgic retro feel to it. I personally love it when songs make you feel a beautiful combination of emotions, and this band is successful in doing that. With pretty guitars, soothing synths, powerful drums and interesting lyrics, HUNNY’s music is a must-listen for those who like soft rock and retro pop.
My favourite HUNNY songs include: Televised, Vowels.
5. Seedhe Maut

Delhi rappers Encore ABJ and Calm make up the dynamic duo Seedhe Maut. This powerful rap duo is, in my opinion, one of the best hip hop acts from India and at the same time, the most underrated. Everybody knows Divine and Naezy, as they should, but not as many have had the chance to listen to this energetic duo, and I feel that’s a shame. With most songs produced by one of the best hip hop producers from India, Sez, Seedhe Maut’s discography is really a treat to listen to for those who like tasteful beats and meaningful raps. Many of their lyrics are a slam to the negative sides of Indian tradition, which tells people what to do, how to behave and what to become.
My favourite Seedhe Maut songs include: Pankh, PnP, Kyu.
